BOSTON, MA – OCTOBER 17: Karlie Kloss attends Museum Of Fine Arts: Mario Testino Exhibit Sponosred By Swarovski at Boston Museum Of Fine Arts on October 17, 2012 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Lady luck Karlie Kloss is living the dream. Our September cover star is fashion’s Miss Congeniality, says Zara Wong. Photography by Victor Demarchelier.
Karlie is excited about her upcoming birthday. There’s a possible celebration in Las Vegas with best friend, model Jourdan Dunn. “We met during my first season, backstage at Prada. We share our birthdays, too,” says Kloss, “so we’re birthday twins.” The plan, however, may be thwarted: it’s easy to forget that despite her prolific career and maturity, she will only be turning 19, and hence won’t meet Nevada’s legal drinking age. “I haven’t made any big plans yet,” she concedes, speaking from her new home in upstate New York, where she’s just relocated with her parents from St. Louis, Missouri. “But it’s perfect, because growing up, you take your vacation in August with the whole family, so I have been able to celebrate my birthday in places we vacationed, like Disney World, or a cruise, or the Bahamas … How lucky am I?”
“Lucky” is a word that Kloss uses a lot. She’s the very embodiment of the model fairytale: Mid-West America to worldwide modelling sensation. She’s all lithe limbs and balletic grace thanks to years of dance training; it’s not surprising she was discovered in the first place, in a shopping centre fashion show by powerhouse model scouts Jeff and Mary Clarke. “Growing up in a house of five girls, I couldn’t help but glance at a fashion magazine or two,” says Kloss, “but I never really followed [fashion] that closely until I became involved in it.”
The Clarkes’ other superstar discovery was Ashton Kutcher, whose path from Calvin Klein model to That ’70s Show to, well, Demi Moore, hints that a brighter future can be expected from the charming and intelligent Kloss.
It is to be expected and almost clichéd to hear blockbuster models, actors or other celebrities gush about their various successes, however Kloss is genuine and modest; she attributes her success to good fortune rather than her actions. “I think the reason she’s handled her success so well is because she was raised with a good head on her shoulders,” says Derek Blasberg, fellow Missourian and editor-at-large of US Harper’s BAZAAR. “She’s such a fabulous model because she is long and exaggerated but also supremely graceful and elegant, which isn’t always the case with a girl who’s almost six feet tall.”
Gucci creative director Frida Giannini offers similar praise. “Karlie has the confidence and the energy that go hand-in-hand with pursuing an ambition. I remember when she first walked the runway for Gucci, in 2007, and today I’m happy to see her enjoying the success she deserves,” she says.
In Kloss’s own words? “Really, I have to pinch myself every now and then and just step back and realise all the cool things I’ve been able to experience, and the incredible things I’ve been able to do since I’ve started this career,” she says. “Every single day I’m shocked. When I started this career I had no idea that it would lead to where I am today, and allow me to travel to all these beautiful places.”
Travel is one of the biggest perks of a modelling career, with Kloss’s favourite city being Paris, bien sûr — and appropriately, the setting for the cover shoot. “It was so much fun; it was a really beautiful night in Paris,” she says. “We were in the old part of town, on the Left Bank. It was like out of a movie. Jill [Davison, BAZAAR’s fashion director, who worked with Kloss previously as fashion director of US Teen Vogue] is really special to me, so to be able to work with her again was amazing; I felt like we had all grown up. First for Teen Vogue, then the cover for Australian BAZAAR, it’s come full circle.”
Joe Jonas’ rumoured new love interest Karlie Kloss has dismissed dating gossip, insisting she’s just “great friends” with the Jonas Brothers star.
The singer was a guest at Prince William’s charity polo match in Santa Barbara, California last month and he sparked speculation of a romance with model Kloss when they slipped into a photo booth together to snap a series of fun black and white shots, which showed them laughing, making silly faces and gazing into each other’s eyes.
Kloss has now addressed rumours suggesting the pair is dating, telling Life & Style magazine, “No, we’re really not.”
She adds, “It was such a fun event, and we had an amazing time together. Joe really is a great guy though and such a good friend. We’re great friends, and I do love him as a person.”
Today Karlie celebrates her 19th birthday. Happy birthday, Karlie!
Also, I’m sorry for not updating the site for such a long time! I’ve been very busy these days but I will update the site very soon. Thank you for still visiting!
Prince William wasn’t the only one scoring at Saturday’s polo game.
Joe Jonas was also in high spirits at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club as he celebrated the prince’s win with a special lady by his side: model Karlie Kloss, who is the current face of Oscar de la Renta.
Prior to the game, Jonas, 21, and Kloss, 18, goofed around in a photo booth sponsored by Jacks Wills, the British fashion house that designed the jerseys for the match.
In the cute black-and-white photos, the two strike three poses, going from serious to silly – Kloss makes a kissy face! – to romantic. In the last image of their uncensored shoot, they gaze into each other’s eyes.
Jonas and Kloss, who has also starred in ad campaigns for Dior and Marc Jacobs, kept close company at the match, which benefitted the American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.
After attending the luncheon with the Jacks Wills team and flirting in the photo booth, the two were spotted chatting it up in the stands as they cheered on Team Royal Salute alongside Duchess Catherine and Alex Pettyfer.
Karlie was at the Foundation Polo Challenge, and she sat beside Joe and Kevin Jonas, and Alex Pettyfer. She looks really beautiful!

She has walked in countless runway shows and starred in campaigns for leading luxury labels such as Christian Dior, Donna Karan and Oscar de la Renta, but Karlie Kloss is far from forgetting where it all started.
Teaming up with Mother Model Management, the 18-year-old is running a model competition across America in the hopes of finding the next supermodel. Founders of the agency and husband and wife team, Jeff and Mary Clarke, discovered Karlie Kloss at a benefit show in St Louis in 2005. Together they will come full circle and end the search the same way with a charity fashion show and event, Shine, which will be hosted by Karlie.
“Mary and Jeff are like family to me now, and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today so I jumped at the chance to support them in their search to make another ‘wannabe’ models’ dream come true! This is a fantastic way for me to support the community and the charity that launched my career, I couldn’t be more excited!” says Karlie of the competition.
The Clarkes are credited with scouting some of the leading working models today. Katie Fogarty and Lindsay Lullman were also scouted by the duo and are now represented by Next Model Management. The competition, which runs from April to the end of July across Midwest America, could bring the winner a management contract with Mother Management and Next Models, coaching from Jeff and Mary and a trip to New York for a fashion photo shoot.
With Karlie being scouted in Saint Louis and Katie Fogarty coming from Missouri, the Midwest is looking like a safe place to start the search.
