She has walked in countless runway shows and starred in campaigns for leading luxury labels such as Christian Dior, Donna Karan and Oscar de la Renta, but Karlie Kloss is far from forgetting where it all started.
Teaming up with Mother Model Management, the 18-year-old is running a model competition across America in the hopes of finding the next supermodel. Founders of the agency and husband and wife team, Jeff and Mary Clarke, discovered Karlie Kloss at a benefit show in St Louis in 2005. Together they will come full circle and end the search the same way with a charity fashion show and event, Shine, which will be hosted by Karlie.
“Mary and Jeff are like family to me now, and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today so I jumped at the chance to support them in their search to make another ‘wannabe’ models’ dream come true! This is a fantastic way for me to support the community and the charity that launched my career, I couldn’t be more excited!” says Karlie of the competition.
The Clarkes are credited with scouting some of the leading working models today. Katie Fogarty and Lindsay Lullman were also scouted by the duo and are now represented by Next Model Management. The competition, which runs from April to the end of July across Midwest America, could bring the winner a management contract with Mother Management and Next Models, coaching from Jeff and Mary and a trip to New York for a fashion photo shoot.
With Karlie being scouted in Saint Louis and Katie Fogarty coming from Missouri, the Midwest is looking like a safe place to start the search.
A huge thanks to Diana for the exclusive Teen Vogue images! Also, I was wondering, does the site have load slowly for any of you? Is it frequently down? If it is, please comment below! I’ve noticed that in some computers, the site takes a while to load and I’d like to know if it’s the same for everybody else. Thank you! : )
NEW IMAGE: Bally has a new design duo, Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler, and an ad campaign to show off their contemporary concept for the brand. The designers chose Steven Meisel to shoot models Caroline Trentini, Karlie Kloss and Nico Malleville in an opulent Old World atmosphere at the Essex House Hotel in New York. The models are portrayed sitting on a tan leather sofa, clad in fur or checkered wovens, their black bags and ice-pick metal heels in full view.
The fall ads will appear in Italian newspapers on June 19, the day of the brand’s men’s spring 2012 press presentation. The campaign breaks internationally in fashion magazines in the August and September issues. The ad budget was not disclosed but Bally plans a double-digit increase in investment in key European, Asian and North American markets.
Check out this story posted by Lomax. Karlie seems like a really sweet, amazing person. I wish I get to meet her as well someday!
So today played host to one of the greatest moments in my life. That sounds a bit intense I realize, but you have to trust me on this one. As I’m sure many of you have noticed, I post frequently on this blog and my Tumblr about Karlie Kloss. She’s my absolute favorite model and I’ve loved her work ever since the first time I saw her in Teen Vogue threeish years ago. I mean obviously she’s gorgeous but I guess I’ve always admired the fact that she is an “all-American” girl who has conquered the modeling industry by the age of eighteen. Every time I’ve seen her in interviews she seems so sweet and approachable; I’ve always told myself that if I ever meet her I have to go up and say hi to her.
As luck would have it I was bored today waiting for my casting to start so I decided to do some shopping. I went out of my way to find Topshop in Soho but before I ran into it I walked by an American Apparel store. I’ve never even bought anything in that store but for whatever reason I decided to go in and have a look. When I was done in the store I walked out and starting heading to Topshop. Before I knew it I noticed a super tall girl walking towards me. I always love seeing other tall girls on the street so I just kind of observed her casually until I realized “oh my gosh it’s Karlie Kloss”. Before I could even hesitate I walked straight up to her, tapped her on the arm, and introduced myself. Luckily she was a complete sweetheart and greeted me very sincerely and stopped what she was doing to talk to me. I told her I was a fan of hers and that it was such a pleasure randomly meeting her. She asked where I was from and how long I’d been modeling. The fact that she just assumed I was a model kind of made my life, I mean a super model telling me that I looked like a model? Amazing.

Karlie Kloss, one of the world’s top fashion models, is, after all, still a senior at Webster Groves High School.
So it came as no surprise to family, faculty and friends when the 6-foot glamour queen attended Saturday’s prom with 5-foot-6-inch Gabe Smith, one of her best friends since the two were tots playing together in mom’s day out programs and at pre-school.
Smith, 17, who makes his money mowing lawns, umpiring baseball games and dog-sitting, insisted on buying Kloss’ ticket to the prom and drove them in his father’s ’07 Ford Fusion four-door sedan. They left Kloss’s silver Land Rover, which she bought for herself, at home in the driveway.
She wore flats and a deep orange dress that we can only guess came from some hot designer, while Smith rented his tux from Men’s Wearhouse because he had a $40 off coupon.
Kloss, 18, spends so much of her time on the road and in Manhattan, where she keeps an apartment, that she maintains a high-grade point level through the high school’s Statesmen Center for Independent Studies and Non-Traditional Learning. She’s also been a cheerleader.
Friends from home keep in touch via text and online chatting, and when Kloss is in town she is busy catching up on homework and spending time with her family — including three sisters — and friends. She’s athletic and likes to play golf and tennis. Smith asked her to the prom while they were playing nine holes at Westborough Country Club in Oakland.
In the interest of full disclosure, Smith is the son of STLtoday.com’s online sports editor, Mike Smith. He is the seventh of seven kids and known to his siblings by the nickname, “Da Angel.” Mom, Karen Smith, is a realtor who founded a nonprofit organization, Get the Word Out, that is helping kids in Kenya and Uganda. She also attended the Met Gala, and so far we only have two images. What do you think of her outfit?
